On Thursday the 14th of January 2021 Tamarinde Haven received her PhD docterate cum laude for her research on Academic Research Climate in universities in Amsterdam. Her dissertation is titled ‘Towards a Responsible Research Climate‘ and can be found here. She defended her thesis with great success and was not only awarded the distinction of cum laude, but was also lauded by her supervisors and the committee on her thesis for both the solid and extensive research as well as the creative design and original writing.

In her thesis, she researched how research climate affects the research integrity of researchers. She found that in nearly a third of all questionable research practices, the research climate plays an important role. Furthermore, different aspects of the research climate such as publication pressure, competition and the normalization of overwork are discussed in her dissertation. In the research she suggests possible interventions to move towards a responsible research climate.
